Franco Zeffirelli: one hundred years after his birth, this exhibition proposes to remove the artist from the dimension of the chronicle, of which he was a passionate, belligerent, often criticized protagonist, and to consider his figure and his work through the era, or rather, the eras, in which his talent was expressed.
Through the productions he signed for the Teatro alla Scala (more than half a century of activity: 1953-2006) it is possible to retrace a career that has known different phases and various stylistic directions, the continuity of which resides in a strong idea of melodrama as a theater of all and for all, not the closed garden of an elite but the expression of a popular imagination.
Franco Zeffirelli's work at La Scala has left a living mark on the very identity of the theater; his performances are still in the minds and hearts of all who enter the Piermarini, even those who have never seen them. To be part of the myths of La Scala is to feel its presence beyond memory.
